The Best Gift Costs Nothing: Reflecting on Dec 13th and Gearing Up to Flood Vienna with Empathy

Why do we do it? Why do we stand in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Mariahilferstraße with signs that simply read „Free Listening“?

The answer is as simple as it is profound: In a world that is getting louder and louder, listening is the most precious gift we can give one another. It is the fastest path to human connection and a powerful antidote to loneliness.

A Look Back: December 13th on the MaHü

Our event on December 13th was a wonderful testament to this power. With four stations set up along Mariahilferstraße, we created a space where non-judgmental presence was the only priority.

So much more happened than „just“ listening:

• Deep Encounters: We shared countless conversations that ranged from tears to heartfelt laughter.
• A Growing Community: Among our listeners, true friendships blossomed through this intense shared experience. We are no longer just a team; we are a movement.

Radio Retrospective (Dec 16th)

The resonance was so strong that we were invited to share our experiences and the vision behind „Free Listening“ on the radio on December 16th. It was a fantastic opportunity to bring the message of Flooding the Zone with Empathy to a wider audience and show how effective simple presence can be.

The Next Phase: 2026 – The Year of Free Listening in Vienna!

We feel that we are just getting started. We are now entering a new phase and announcing a bold vision: We want 2026 to be the „Year of Free Listening“ in Vienna. Our goal is to firmly anchor empathy in the city’s heartbeat.

The first major milestone on this journey is just around the corner: On April 25th, 2025, we are going to truly flood Mariahilferstraße with empathy! We aim to massively expand our presence and set up more listening stations than ever before. We want to show that Vienna is a city that listens to one another.
